A student research organization

UGA iGEM participates in the international iGEM competition, but this is not a generic college club. Students drive scientific exploration, engineering, computational work, experimental development, project planning, human practices, outreach, communication, and team operations.

Faculty, mentors, and collaborators may support the team where appropriate, but UGA iGEM remains student-driven. Students are not simply participating in a predefined program. They are building, investigating, designing, and communicating a research project together.

What is iGEM?

iGEM gives student teams a structure to develop projects, apply engineering principles, document work, consider societal implications, collaborate, and present to an international scientific community.

Mission

We use synthetic biology and interdisciplinary scientific thinking to investigate meaningful biological and biomedical problems, while building an environment where students develop as researchers, engineers, collaborators, and scientific communicators.

Ambitious but grounded. We do not make unsupported claims about curing disease or revolutionizing healthcare.
